"THE CRAZY CANARDS"
In June1995, while addressing the World International Convention of the 99's International Women Pilots, Dee became aware of the upcoming World Precision Flying Competition to be hosted in North America in September of 1996. Since this European originated World Championship was first held in Sweden in 1975, this was only the third time that the competition took place in North America. Returning to Ottawa she embarked on a search to locate the Canadian Team in hopes of competing for a position. Upon discovering that Canada had not been represented at this major international event since 1979, Dee set her goal and Canadian Precision Flight Team, christened "The Crazy Canards" came into being.
In six months she recruited and trained the pilots, planned and assisted raising the required $50,000 funding. Indeed the Team represented Canada at the World Precision Flying Championship held in Fort Worth, Texas, USA from September 20 to October 6, 1996. In addition to being a first competition for Canadian aviators in over fifteen years, it was the first time in the history of the event that a team composed entirely of women pilots participated thus achieving a World First!
From meager beginnings the team has evolved into The Canadian Precision Flying Association , an Officially recognized not-for-profit charitable organization continuing to train Canadian pilots in the art of precision flying and subsequently fielded a Canadian Team which attended the 1999 World Precision Flying Championships held recently in New Zealand.
