CF 18 "HORNET"

410 "Cougar" Tactical Operational Training Squadron, Cold Lake, Alberta 1989

It was over to 410 "Cougar" Squadron to complete a further six months of training on the super sonic CF-18 Hornet. The course was comprised of an extremely demanding schedule of ground school classes, simulator training sessions and flying missions. There were many many points along the process of learning that each and everyone of us, both experienced "old" time fighter pilots converting to the CF 18 as well as "new" rookie pilots, became personally challenged by the incredible demands of flying this sophisticated machine! However, once again, we all made it and graduated in June, 1989 at a ceremony attended by many of our proud family members.

416 "Lynx" Rapid Reactor Squadron, Cold Lake Alberta, 1989 - 1990

A promotion to Major and assignment to 416 "Lynx" Squadron in the position of Plans Officer followed and I flew the CF-18 in Canada and in Europe until an unfortunate third operation on a problematic left ulnar nerve condition temporarily ended my go-fast flying career!

Directorate of Flight Safety, National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa, Ontario, 1990 - 1994

I served the remainder of my military career with the Directorate of Flight Safety as an Aircraft Accident Investigator and the Cell Supervisor responsible for all flight safety matters pertaining to accidents and incidents concerning all Jet Trainers and Fighters in the Canadian Forces.
