ADVANCED PILOT TRAINING2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School, Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, 1980 - 1985
The next flying challenge was the Advanced Pilot Training Course conducted at 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (2 CFFTS) C.F.B. Moose Jaw, Sasketchewan. The course was approximately eleven months in duration and combined once again a rigorous academic ground school curriculum and a 200 hour flying program flown on the CT114 aircraft. The "Tutor" single engine jet aircraft, built in Canada by Canadair, was used as the Basic Pilot Advanced Jet Training aircraft for the Canadian Forces pilot training program since the mid 1960's.
Anxious for a career in jets, I requested and was granted the opportunity to remain at the school as an instructor and did just that throughout the following 4 years.
It matters not, whether you are a helicopter pilot flying off a ship with the Navy, in support of the Army or Search & Rescue operations in extreme weather conditions; a transport pilot providing International Humanitarian Aid into less than ideal airfields environments; or a fighter pilot flying in support of Peace Keeping Operations or actual hostile Combat Conditions, lives may be at stake and in order to accomplish your mission successfully, you must be at your absolute "Best" as a pilot. The pilots of the Canadian Forces rank among the Best in the World!
