T-33 "SILVER STAR"
Base Flight, Cold Lake, Alberta 1986 - 1988
Following the French Language Training Course which was interrupted by a six month assignment to National Defence Headquarters to serve as a member on the Charter Task Force On Equality Rights, assigned to expand employment opportunities for women in the Forces, I was posted to Base Flight C.F.B Cold Lake, Alberta.
Base Flight operated 12 "T-Bird" aircraft in the utility, target and banner/target towing roles as well as a fleet of Search and Rescue Twin Huey helicopters. I served two years as the first female in the position of T-33 Flight Commander from Dec 1986 until June of 1988. Flying, managing and supervising the "T-Bird" operation and seven junior pilots was indeed one of the most challenging and satisfying jobs of my military career. Always intent on improving my flying skills, while with Base Flight, I qualified as a 4-Plane Formation Lead, T-33 Airshow Demonstration Pilot, Test Pilot as well as completing the Instrument Check Pilots Course to become a certified Military Pilot License Examiner.
